The infocomm sector has been identified as one of the most vibrant sectors of Singapore’s economy with some 30,000 new jobs projected to be created by 2020.

Speaking as guest-of-honour at the inaugural Tech3 Forum 2016, NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Chan Chun Sing shared how the Labour Movement is looking to partner professionals in the infocomm sector to
help them achieve their career aspirations.

Attracting more than 200 participants, the forum themed ‘On-Demand Economy – The Need for Business Agility’ held at the Four Seasons Hotel was organised by NTUC U Associate partner Singapore Computer Society (SCS).

A BRIGHT FUTURE

“This industry has tremendous opportunities. If we can attract and groom another generation of Singaporeans to come into this industry, there will be a bright future,” said SG Chan.

He also identified three challenges – generating interest early amongst the young to attract them to the opportunities and challenges in the industry; mentoring young entrants in their early years to help them
overcome the initial years of settling in so that they will stay for the long-term; and ensuring that senior professionals continue to get exposed to skillsets beyond the immediate industry for them to stand the best
chance to reach the very top.

“My assurance is that the Labour Movement will work with partners such as SCS and the Infocomm Development Authority to make sure that we strengthen the sector.

“Our promise is that we’ll walk this journey with you. We may not have the domain knowledge, but we have the network, the means and framework to partner you to achieve a vibrant infocomm sector consisting of people who have the domain knowledge, depth of experience, and cross-cultural and cross-sectoral skills,” said SG Chan.
