The Labour Movement will launch the first run of Family Recreation & Fun (FRF) Carnivals 2013 on 2 June 2013. Organised by NTUC Club, this annual carnival treats low-income union members and their families to a day of fun and entertainment at Downtown East.
Six runs of the FRF Carnivals will be held this year, which amount to a total of $1.5 million in sponsorship value from NTUC Club to the NTUC-U Care Fund, and will go towards helping 15,000 low-income union members. The launch of FRF Carnivals 2013 kicks off the Labour Movement’s fundraising efforts which seek to raise $10.5 million this year. In total, the FRF Carnivals would benefit about 60,000 low-income union members and their families, assuming each union member has a family unit consisting of 4 persons.
“In keeping with our commitment to provide affordable recreational options that strengthen the family unit, the FRF Carnival is one way that we give back to our union members and the Labour Movement. As we redevelop Downtown East to create a greater space for engagement, we will continue to care for our members’ well-being through fun and provide even better quality bonding opportunities,” said Mr Yeo Khee Leng, Chief Executive Officer, NTUC Club.
The first run of FRF Carnivals for 2013 will be launched by Special Guest Heng Chee How, Deputy Secretary-General, NTUC, with over 10,000 low-income union members and their families at Downtown East. At the launch, Mr Heng and union members and their families also participated in an attempt to break the Singapore Book of Records for the biggest mass symphony. Reusing regular household items such as pots and pans, they created an extraordinary, coordinated symphony of simple rhythms and beats.
About FRF Carnivals 2013
Five more runs of the FRF Carnival will be held in June, September, November and December. Each family will receive free admission tickets to the Wild Wild Wet water park, food & beverage vouchers, free playtime at eXplorerkid, free bowling games and unlimited play of games and activities at Downtown East. The sponsorship of the FRF Carnivals not only gives us a good start towards our fundraising target of $10.5 million this year, but also allows our low-income union members and families to spend quality time and bond through activities at Downtown East.”
Contributions to U Care Fund will be used to provide relief for low-income union members and their families through various assistance programmes like U Stretch vouchers, U Care Education Co-Funding scheme, U Care Back to School vouchers, and donations to NTUC Eldercare Trust and NTUC First Campus Bright Horizons Fund.
