Since 1999, key leaders from the Labour Movement have visited working people in the essential services sectors during the Lunar New Year to thank them for putting their work and duties ahead of holidays and personal celebrations.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Appreciating Workers at SATS
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong and key union leaders greeted workers from SATS at SATS Inflight Catering Centre 1 in a visit led by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). PM Lee and Mrs Lee were accompanied by NTUC President Mary Liew, NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Ng Chee Meng, NTUC Central Committee members as well as union leaders from Air Transport Executive Staff Union (AESU) and Singapore Airport Terminal Services Workers' Union (SATSWU).
SATS supports several airlines at Changi Airport through the preparation of more than 90,000 in-flight meals daily. The festive season is also their busiest period as that is when many people travel. To appreciate those working on the first day of the Lunar New Year, PM Lee gave out red packets and mandarin oranges, as well as gifts provided by Mrs Lee, to some 150 workers working in the various kitchens, the Tray Assembly area and the Innovation & Product Development team.The workers SATS are represented by AESU and SATSWU.
The visit ended with a traditional lohei session with workers, union leaders and management partners.

NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng Appreciating Taxi Drivers at Changi Airport Terminal 3
Prior to the visit to SATS, NTUC SG Ng together withSpeaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin and some 50 taxi leaders from the National Taxi Association (NTA) visited taxi drivers at Changi Airport Terminal 3 earlier that morning.
They appreciated taxi drivers for performing their duties and providing transport services to Singaporeans during the festive period.
Together, they distributed gift bags prepared by NTA to more than 1,000 taxi drivers at the various terminals on the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year.
Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat and NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Koh Poh Koon Appreciating Workers at PSA
Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat, accompanied by NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Dr Koh Poh Koon who is also Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Senior Minister of State for Transport Dr Lam Pin Min and union leaders from the Singapore Port Workers Union (SPWU) and Port Officers’ Union (POU), also visited some 1,000 workers at PSA to show their appreciation in the morning. These workers continue to be on duty on the first day of Lunar New Year to ensure the smooth running of the port operations which functions 24/7, 365 days a year.
