Thousands of NTUC members have benefitted from the
Future Leaders Series and subsidised courses at partner institutions
Following the successful first run of the Future Leaders Summit held in June 2013, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) presents the second instalment of the Future Leaders Series. During this session, Mr Tan Suee Chieh, Group CEO of NTUC Enterprise will share his insights on what managers and professionals need to do to thrive in an increasingly competitive global workplace. Mr Terry O’Connor, Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Courts Asia, and Mr David Wilkins, Co-author of 'Leadership, Pure & Simple' & Partner of Decision Process International (DPI), were also featured in the first session of the Series in September last year.
Mr Tan was the youngest and first Asian to become CEO at Prudential Asia at 34 years old. Currently, he is Group CEO of NTUC Enterprise, the holding entity of NTUC social enterprises including NTUC Income and NTUC FairPrice. Today, at the NTUC Centre Auditorium at One Marina Boulevard, Mr Tan will share lessons he learnt from his exciting career in a practical and easy to follow 10-Step Guide with some 240 aspiring working professionals.
The first Future Leaders Summit in June 2013 saw over 1,000 professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) benefitted from the two-day event, where they learn from the first hand experiences from over 25 Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) and leaders from various industries. The participants at the Summit have feedback that they hope for a corporate culture that encourages lifelong learning, as well as more support from management and better incentives if they take recommended courses. In view of the feedback, the Labour Movement will continue to be supportive of the drive towards fostering a learning and development culture within the workplace, and tailor relevant courses to support PMEs on their learning needs.
In fact, over 29,000 NTUC members have benefitted last year from special savings on courses provided by partner training institutions such as NTUC LearningHub, Adam Khoo Learning Technologies Group (AKLTG), Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) and Singapore Human Resource Institute (SHRI), among others. In addition, NTUC members also enjoy up to $250 every year in Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP) for hundreds of other courses.
NTUC has also collaborated with training institutions such as MDIS, Singapore Accountancy Academy (SAA) Global Education and SIM University to provide NTUC members opportunities to enroll in undergraduate programmes with scholarships and study grants.
Mr Vivek Kumar, Director, NTUC Membership said, “Through the Future Leaders Series and our strong partnerships with leading professional development institutions, we strive to support working professionals on their learning needs to bring them closer to realising their career aspirations in an increasingly globally competitive workplace. The Labour Movement will continue to push for greater professional development among our members, and advocate the benefits of having future-ready PMEs so as to encourage employers to send their employees for continuous professional development.”
