Since 1999, key leaders from the Labour Movement have visited working people in the essential services sectors during the Lunar New Year to thank them for putting their work and duties ahead of holidays and personal celebrations.

This year, on the first day of the Lunar New Year, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and key union leaders greeted workers at Senoko Energy Pte Ltd in a visit led by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). Prime Minister and Mrs Lee were accompanied by NTUC President Mary Liew, NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Chan Chun Sing and NTUC Central Committee members.

At the visit, Prime Minister Lee gave out red packets and mandarin oranges as well as gifts provided by Mrs Lee to the workers. They met about 30 workers, comprising duty shift managers, team leaders, engineers and technical officers who work behind-the-scenes to keep Singapore’s power running 24/7. The workers at Senoko Energy are represented by the Union of Power and Gas Employees.

The visit ended with a traditional Lo Hei session with the workers, union leaders and management partners.

Earlier this morning, SG Chan together with the Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Transport Josephine Teo, and key union leaders from the National Transport Workers' Union brought festive cheer to over 600 bus captains, depot staff and interchange staff at four different locations. The workers are from the four Public Transport Operators, namely SBS Transit, Tower Transit, SMRT and Go-Ahead Singapore. At the visits, SG Chan and SMS Teo distributed red packets and mandarin oranges to those who were on duty.
