Singapore’s Labour Movement will play host to the first-ever International Tripartism Forum in the Republic later this year.

According to NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Lim Swee Say, the forum will be held close to the NTUC’s National Delegates Conference in in October this year.

“One reason why we are having the Tripartism Forum is because this year is SG50 and we feel that tripartism has played a very important part in the building of this nation.

“We should have a platform in a way to reflect on how we have been able to get tripartism to work in the pro-business and pro-worker way and how both are able to reinforce each to get where we are.

“At the same time, we also recognise that while our model is effective for us, we cannot claim that this is the only way forward. That is why we are also asking countries of the other regions, why not you too come forward to share your model,” said SG Lim.

SG Lim made the announcement on 27 April, to share with the media the Labour Movement’s achievements over the past few years as he prepares to step down from his current post on 4 May 2015 to make way for NTUC’s current Deputy Secretary-General and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Chan Chun Sing.

SG Lim will take on his new role as Minister for Manpower on the same day.

ILO Participation

The Forum will be organised by the Ong Teng Cheng Labour Leadership Institute and will see the attendance and participation of International Labour Organisation Director-General, Guy Ryder.

The Forum will also see an international audience from unions worldwide.
