More than 140,000 employers will start receiving the first tranche of the Jobs Support Scheme (JSS) payouts today, 15 April 2020.
The payouts total over $7 billion and will cover over 1.9 million local workers in Singapore. Local workers refer to Singapore citizens and permanent residents.
Companies that had earlier signed up for PayNow Corporate or have existing GIRO arrangements with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) will have the payout credited directly to their bank accounts.
Meanwhile, companies that are not on PayNow Corporate or GIRO will receive cheques from 23 April 2020 onwards.
Under the JSS payout, the Government will co-fund the first $4,600 of gross monthly salary of every local worker over a period of nine months.
The April payout will see the Government co-fund 75 per cent of all local workers’ wages in all sectors.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat in the Solidarity Budget delivered on 6 April 2020, the enhanced JSS payout in April aims to help companies retain and pay their workers during the Circuit Breaker period.
The remaining payout months of July and October 2020 will see the Government support 75 per cent of workers’ wages in the aviation sector, 50 per cent for workers in the F&B sector and 25 per cent for all other sectors.
