On 11 September 2013, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Secretary-General Lim Swee Say visited The American Club to meet with its employees and witness some of the innovations implemented in their daily operations.
The club showcased some of the modern equipment that helps make jobs Easier, Smarter and Safer (ESS) for employees.
Innovations, such as the self-service kiosk, the electronic table coaster system and the dual-lane car park entry, have significantly contributed towards raising employee productivity and creating a positive experience for the club members.
Apart from modernising these systems, the club also placed special emphasis on ensuring the welfare of their workers.
To help motivate and challenge employees to work hard, as well as heighten their sense of loyalty to the club, structured career paths were developed in accordance with the Progressive Wage Model (PWM) to ensure career progression for its workers.
Besides this, the club also embarked on a club-wide service training with Next U and Disney Institute last October to increase the competency and service quality of its employees.
The club also periodically does aggressive salary adjustments. The most recent exercise in September last year saw 70 per cent of staff receiving adjustments of around 20 per cent.
To aid them in the club's quest to become more competitive and productive, SG Lim highlighted that there are various funding schemes such as the Inclusive Growth Programme (IGP) to help them achieve their goal of becoming a leader in the industry.
SG Lim also praised The American Club for being a role model and encouraged them to work closely with the union to share their best practices with the industry.
