Barely a year since D’Resort @ Downtown East’s official opening, the all-new attraction has been busy keeping up with new initiatives to improve customer experience. D’Resort opened in July last year with its Phase One of the $200 million Refreshing Downtown East redevelopment project announced in 2012.
Housekeeping has seen some sprucing up, with staff recently equipped with new tools and skillsets to improve productivity. The resort also purchased new equipment to keep up with housekeeping standards in Singapore.
CIRVIS Consultancy was engaged by D’Resort to assist with the improvements to productivity and efficiency to ensure that the Operations and Housekeeping department is able to achieve the industry’s best practices.
Phased Training
With its staff in mind, D’Resort worked on capacity-building at different levels for the training of its staff, team leaders and supervisors. A phased approach to the training and introduction of the new equipment was put in place to avoid overstraining its staff with sudden changes.
All housekeeping staff had to undergo a series of 13 modules. As part of Housekeeping 101, staff learned useful tips such as how to set up a chambermaid trolley, how to make different types of beds, how to enter guest rooms and interact with guests.
Each staff was then awarded a Housekeeping On-The-Job Training Modules completion certification by CIRVIS on 3 February 2016.
Productivity Improvements
Besides placing its staff through training, D’Resort also purchased three kinds of equipment in a bid to boost productivity (see side story). As a result, D’Resort saw a three minute decrease in time taken to perform tasks such as cleaning of rooms and making of beds.
These new tools and equipment not only improve the otherwise highly manual processes for mature workers, but also allow them to learn how to use new equipment and technology at their age.
Director for Group Integrated Sales and Marketing Ronnie Tan said: “With the purchase of new tools and equipment, we are placing greater emphasis on benefitting our workers’ wellbeing by reducing the amount of physically demanding processes on them, and providing them with the right tools and skills to complete their jobs with ease and increased productivity.”
