As Managing Editor of “Lifestyle” magazine, which is published by NTUC Media Co-operative Limited, Ms Tan Shee Lah (second from left) held the power in her pen to make a difference in the lives of those down on their luck.
Stories were chosen for empathy so readers would feel for interviewees, commiserate with the ones who had lost their jobs, had fallen on hard times, been struck ill, had no one to care for them, and share the joy of the ones who had beaten the odds and were an inspiration.
Through her stories, a 60-plus-year-old secretary-turned-toilet cleaner found employment as a clerical officer, a paralysed young trainer found the courage to live, and a struggling young Turkish businessman got the help he needed.
Challenging tasks. Super tight deadlines. New experiences. This is not a job scope any worker would want. But to NTUC Media Co-operative Limited Creative Director Ho Kok Cheng (third from left), it is a job scope he takes in his stride.
For instance, at the NTUC National Delegates’ Conference in 2011, he was tasked to put together a video of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in a matter of minutes. He was also asked on-the-spot to produce a closing video for NDC.
In the face of these seemingly impossible requests, Mr Ho never backed down, always creating a product he and his team were proud of.
