Higher Salaries and Shorter Hours for Security Officers

NTUC and the Union of Security Employees (USE) continue to push hard for the transformation and professionalisation of the security industry.

Security officers can look forward to higher wages and shorter working hours following the upcoming review of the Progressive Wage Model (PWM) for the security sector, announced NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng on 9 November 2021.

NTUC shared that the Security Tripartite Cluster (STC) is reviewing the PWM for the sector and will announce its recommendations soon.

Taking to Facebook, the Labour Chief shared that NTUC and the Union of Security Employees (USE) have lobbied hard for significant changes to be made to the PWM for the security industry in a big push to transform the industry and raise its professionalism.

“Very soon, there will be key recommendations made to address long-standing issues such as excessive working hours as well as the challenges faced by security officers at the frontline when they are made to deal with incidents and a myriad of issues including abuse,” he wrote.

Outcome-Based Contracting

Mr Ng took the opportunity to encourage security officers to upskill themselves so that they can improve their productivity, along with the help of technology.

He also urged for more security buyers and providers to plan for their security needs more holistically, to buy and design security services responsibly, and adopt outcome-based contracting (OBC) to achieve optimum security results.

“This will in turn translate to more productive workers who take pride in their jobs and aspire to progress further,” he said.
