NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) has announced a Master Class Series that aims to help Professionals, Managers and Executives (PMEs) in various sectors deepen their skills and be future-ready.
The series acts as a bridge for workers and industry practitioners to connect with industry experts and allow them to learn the best practices both locally and globally.
Speaking at the Property Asset Management and Facilities Maintenance Master Class – FutureSkills & Green Job – event held on 3 July 2015, NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Chan Chun Sing said: “As our economy transforms, more and more of our people will be in the PME sectors.
“And it is also NTUC’s job to make sure that we help our PMEs remain competitive and stay ahead of the competition. So this series of Master Classes is one such effort.”
SG Chan added that the two main reasons for organising such classes are to allow participants to build their network and share knowledge amongst themselves, and to ensure that PMEs remain competitive in sectors that develop very fast.
Staying Relevant
Aimed to prepare practitioners for the potential growth in the Facilities Management (FM) sector and its changing landscape, the Property Asset Management and Facilities Maintenance Master Class was held in collaboration with the Real Estate & Construction Centre. It was attended by some 150 professionals from the industry.
One of the participants was AIA Head of Real Estate Robert Ang, who attended the event to network and learn other best practices within the industry.
He said: “We, of course, want to help our staff to stay relevant and to pick up the latest and best practices in the market.
“This Master Class will provide a platform for FM industry to network and to learn from each other. We can share information on vendors, practices or supplies.”
Continual Skills Development
e2i aims to encourage Singaporeans to pursue a lifelong learning attitude, upgrade their skills and be more competent in their jobs, and be ready to meet the demands of the future workplace landscape.
e2i CEO Gilbert Tan explained: “The Master Class Series seeks to grow our core Singapore workforce through deepening of skills to be future-ready. We want participants to be inspired to learn from best practices and strengthen their competencies and gain greater knowledge in their respective work domains.
“At the same time, we encourage employers to recognise the importance and need for continual skills development and training so as to grow and deepen their workers’ competencies.”
e2i plans to roll out 50 more Master Classes by the end of the year in other sectors, including manufacturing, precision manufacturing, services industries and the culinary arts.
