Launched on 25 April 2016 at NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), the Advanced Engineers Leadership (AEL) Programme is the second tier of the Engineers Progression Pathway developed in partnership between NTUC U Associate and The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES).
The programme is aimed at mid-career engineers with five to eight years of experience in the industry to equip them with leadership and technology management skills. It is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of this year.
Advanced Learning
Participants will undergo six core modules over a six-month period that will include one-to one mentorship and networking sessions with C-suite industry leaders from companies such as Intel and SIA Engineering Company. There will also be learning journeys to role-model firms like the HDB Building Research Institute and Rolls-Royce Singapore.
The course modules will place an emphasis on cross-engineering knowledge acquisition, cross-disciplinary project collaboration and cross-linkages with peers and industry leaders.
The six modules are:
Each class size will be capped at 30 for better interaction and learning.
NTUC Director of U Associate and U Future Leaders Vivek Kumar said: “We are concerned for the career progression of our engineers and want them to be given fair opportunities to take on bigger roles in their organisations and develop their careers in the industry.
“As an unusual Labour Movement, NTUC is leveraging on our network of partnerships… to connect and prepare our engineers to remain resilient and stay relevant in a fast evolving economic climate.”
Opening of IES Academy
Concurrent with the launch of the AEL Programme, the IES Academy officially opened its doors at e2i.
The academy, which has trained more than 7,000 engineers each year since it was established in 2006, is relocating from its previous Bukit Tinggi campus to accommodate a growing demand in engineering training.
IES President Er. Chong Kee Sen said: “With its enhanced accessibility and modern facilities, the IES Academy aims to better cater to the increasing demand for continuing education, professional upgrading and career advancement amongst engineers.
“The academy’s strategic location within the training hub for employment and employability in Singapore will also help it to foster great linkages between engineers and the industry.”
