On the evening of 17 March 2020, NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng shared at a visit to NTUC FairPrice Xtra that NTUC and unions are working closely with companies to help workers impacted by the movement control order announced by Malaysia on 16 March 2020.

The National Transport Workers' Union is in the process of making accommodation arrangements for more than 2,500 affected bus captains and support workers. Likewise, NTUC FairPrice is looking at providing accommodation and allowances to 1,300 affected workers, so as to minimise disruptions to their work in Singapore, and ultimately, supermarket operations.

“The more important thing is to ensure business continuity in Singapore, whether it is essential services like buses, and also take care of the workers at the same time,” added Mr Ng.
