First announced on 23 August 2018, the Healthcare Academy is now a reality.

Formed by the Healthcare Services Employees’ Union (HSEU), NTUC LearningHub (LHUB), and NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) the Academy aims to ensure that all healthcare workers get the necessary training and support to cope with changes in the workplace.

A key focus will be to equip workers with the necessary adaptive, technical and technology skills to help them seize future job opportunities.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on 8 March 2019 to mark the official formation of the academy.

The agreement will see HSEU, LHUB and e2i work together to support the training and continuous education of healthcare professionals, especially those affected by industry restructuring, job re-design and technological disruptions.

It will also provide employment opportunities for displaced workers from other industry sectors to join the healthcare sector through job matching.

Official Statements

“This is the beginning of a new dawn for the launch of Healthcare Academy for HSEU in partnership with NTUC LearningHub and e2i.

“We have seen early successes in this collaboration when the Healthcare Academy was first piloted in the third quarter of 2018, with more than 200 healthcare staff trained in adaptive and technology skills. Following that, many more employers have shown interest in sending their workers for training and HSEU is very heartened to see the immense enthusiasm and progress made thus far,” said HSEU President K Thanaletchimi.

LHUB CEO Kwek Kok Kwong said the Healthcare Academy will be well-positioned to transform current healthcare workers to be ready for future jobs by equipping them with relevant adaptive skills, technology skills and technical skills.

“As the anchor training partner in the Healthcare Academy, NTUC LearningHub is eager to leverage on the Healthcare Academy's eco-system to develop a suite of programmes which will help workers stay relevant and employable in the healthcare sector," said Mr Kwek.

“The healthcare sector is a people-oriented industry where the practitioners and support staff require both heart and knowledge. e2i is happy to work in partnership with HSEU and NTUC LearningHub to form the Healthcare Academy and continuously drive the healthcare industry and workforce towards providing better care to the community,” said e2i CEO Gilbert Tan.
