More unions came forward this year to compete in the U Live Bowling Challenge this year. A total of 26 teams from 15 unions took part, up from 23 teams from 12 unions last year.
Held at Orchid Bowl at Orchid Country Club on 20 January this year, the event was one of many other sporting events of the U Live Games series which is into its second year running.
NTUC President Diana Chia graced the occasion as Guest-of-Honour and presented the prizes to winning teams and individuals.
Winning in the Singles Category was Mr Wong Kok Choon from Singapore Insurance Employees’ Union (SIEU).
“I feel very happy that I’ve won in the Singles category. It was not easy because there were so many other players as well,” he said.
Mr Wong, who practiced three times a week to prepare for the challenge, revealed that he does not find it tiring as he has the interest in bowling and finds it very enjoyable.
“It is even more enjoyable when you have friends practicing and taking part in the challenge with you,” he added.
Defending champions National Taxi Association (NTA) presented two teams this year. They put up a good fight but were beaten by the team from United Workers of Electronic and Electrical Industries (UWEEI) represented by Mr Patrick Phua.
Mr Phua, who has over 20 years of bowling experience, shared that he also represents the union in other bowling competitions as well.
“You need to develop a love for bowling, an interest for the sport,” he said. “Playing for the union is fun as my members and I click together because of the same interest," he further added.
