When her foreign domestic worker returned to the Philippines for three weeks, Cherral Teo thought she had no choice but to use her annual leave to look after her three young children.
But the 37-year old Management Executive at a statutory board was surprised after talking to her immediate supervisor.
“Why tap on your annual leave? Why don’t you work from home,” her immediate supervisor responded.
After her supervisor brought it up to higher management, Cherral was very pleased when higher management gave her the go-ahead to work from home.
“I was even embarrassed to apply for long leave over three weeks. But after my work-from-home arrangement was approved, I even got a supportive vibe from my colleagues. These things matter a lot to me,” she said.
When asked about her happiness index at work, Cherral gave it an 8 out of 10.
Working in the company for five years now, the mother of three children has been benefitting from various types of family care leave.
The company also extends the benefits to single employees who will have to tend to family needs regularly such as taking care of ageing parents and other relatives.
