As part of the Good Start Bundle initiative, NTUC FairPrice has announced the launch of the $14 million FairMily Kit, which contains baby and family-related products worth up to $100, including Aptamil milk powder.

FairPrice CEO Seah Kian Peng made this announcement at the FairPrice Walks With U event on 21 May 2017.

“The FairPrice FairMily Kit serves to share the joy with parents and celebrate the birth of all new Singaporean babies within the community. At the same time, we recognise that milk powder prices have been rising and we want to do our part to help alleviate some of the costs with this kit,” said Mr Seah.

The Good Start Bundle initiative, launched in April this year to celebrate the birth of new Singaporeans, is anticipated to benefit 35,000 babies per year and will be available to all Singapore citizen babies born between January 2016 and December 2019.

Other than the FairPrice FairMily Kit, the Good Start Bundle contains NTUC Income’s complimentary one-year health insurance coverage for newborns and NTUC First Campus’ publication, Early Experiences Matter: Parent-Child Activity Book. The Good Start Bundle is worth a total of $42 million over four years.

NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Chan Chun Sing, who was guest-of-honour at the event, said: “At the community level, efforts have been stepped up to better engage and support families with newborns. NTUC FairPrice’s latest initiative complements these efforts and is aligned with the vision of creating a more pro-family environment where marriage and parenthood are enjoyable and celebrated in Singapore. As the largest group of social enterprises in Singapore, NTUC Social Enterprises, we also want to develop a lifelong relationship with our young families early, and support them with relevant products and services at different stages of their lives.”

Bringing Better Value

In a media release, FairPrice said it has proactively been discussing with authorities and new suppliers based overseas on bringing in better value milk powder. The effort follows the Government’s call to review import requirements to address rising milk powder prices.

“These milk powder products will expand the supermarket’s extensive range of milk powder further to provide better value and a wider choice for consumers. FairPrice expects to make them available to consumers before the end of June this year. More details will be made available closer to the date,” said FairPrice.

Currently, the retailer provides over 150 varieties of milk powder from different brands, formulations and pack sizes ranging from $22 per kg to $97 per kg.

Helping the Needy

This year’s FairPrice Walks With U event was flagged off by SG Chan and saw 8,500 participants complete a 4km walk from Marina Barrage to Singapore SportsHub in the name of charity.

The event also saw FairPrice donate $1.2 million, which will be used to help needy families alleviate their daily cost of living, through the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme.

The full amount of $1.2 million in FairPrice grocery vouchers will benefit an estimated 20,000 low-income families and individuals across Singapore.

“The social enterprises remain committed to playing our part to do good for the community, including the needy,” said SG Chan.
