The People’s Action Party has begun introducing its slate of candidates for the next General Election. Six of the candidates introduced so far have links with the Labour Movement.
Mr Chan Chun Sing
NTUC Secretary-General, Chan Chun Sing, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, will anchor the five-member PAP Tanjong Pagar GRC team for the coming General Election.
Mr Chan, 45, introduced the candidates for the GRC during a news conference at the Tanjong Pagar Plaza market and hawker centre on 19 August 2015.
The Tanjong Pagar GRC has remained uncontested since it was formed in 1991
Mr Heng Chee How
Mr Heng Chee How, NTUC Deputy Secretary-General, is 54 years old and is currently a Member of Parliament for Whampoa Single Member Constituency.
It was announced on 16 August 2015 that Mr Heng will be fielded in the Jalan Besar GRC after Whampoa became part of it after the release of the Electoral Boundaries Review Report.
Mr Patrick Tay
Mr Patrick Tay, 43, is currently NTUC Assistant Secretary-General.
He is also the Director of Legal Services Department and Director of PME (Professionals, Managers and Executives) Unit in NTUC.
Mr Tay will be fielded in West Coast GRC. He is moving to the Boon Lay division after serving in the Nee Soon GRC currently.
Mr Ang Hin Kee
Mr Ang Hin Kee, 49, is being fielded again in Ang Mo Kio GRC, helmed by Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong.
The Assistant Secretary-General of NTUC, Mr Ang is also Executive Advisor to the National Taxi Association. He holds positions in the Singapore Shell Employees’ Union and the Education Services Union.
Mr Ong Ye Kung
Mr Ong Ye Kung, 45, is currently the Director of Group Strategy at Keppel Corporation.
Mr Ong, who is being fielded in Sembawang GRC, is also the Chairman of NTUC's e2i (Employment and Employability Institute).
He also served as NTUC’s Deputy Secretary-General before joining the private sector.
Mr Chong Kee Hiong
Mr Chong Kee Hiong, 49, is the Chief Executive Officer of OUE Hospitality REIT Management Pte. Ltd.
Mr Chong is currently the Chairman of NTUC Foodfare and President of the General Committee at Orchid Country Club.
He will be fielded in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.
Other Announcements
During the introduction of candidates for Ang Mo Kio GRC on 15 August 2015, PM Lee also announced that NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Yeo Guat Kwang who is currently with the Ang Mo Kio GRC team, will be deployed to another division while Mr Seng Han Thong, a former NTUC Assistant Secretary-General will be retiring.
