NTUC members now have a new avenue to seek help on issues they face as employers of foreign domestic workers (FDWs).
The NTUC Women & Family Unit (WAF) and Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE) have organised free monthly advisory clinics. These will serve as a platform for members to better understand their responsibilities as an employer to build strong rapport with their FDWs.
The first of such advisory clinics was held today, 27 January 2021, at the NTUC Centre, where members also met Labour Member of Parliament and WAF Director, Yeo Wan Ling.
“For many women, having adequate, dependable caregiving support at home is key to having peace of mind at work.
“This initiative is part of efforts by WAF to strengthen the caregiving ecosystem to support working women so they are empowered to pursue their career aspirations, whatever they may be,” said Ms Yeo.
CDE Executive Director Shamsul Kamar said: “We will strive to be the bridge between employers and FDWs to help them understand each other’s perspectives better.
“Hopefully, employers who are NTUC members will gain some useful insights out of the clinics and strive towards building up the employment relationship with their FDWs.”
In the coming months, WAF will also be collaborating with social enterprises NTUC Health and NTUC First Campus on plans for clinics that will focus on the caregiving of young children and the elderly.
More details on these will be provided at a later date.
