The Finance for the Future programme was launched by U Associate CPA Australia at the CPA Congress on 11 October 2017 in the presence of some 480 accountancy industry professionals.

The programme consists of a suite of 20 courses spanning finance operations and business operations across different levels. It is specially designed to help participants move up the career ladder through expanding technical and business competencies.

Supported by NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), Singaporeans and permanent residents are eligible for training subsidies of over 40 per cent of the course fees.

Upskilling Opportunities

With smart software increasingly eradicating complex, multiphase or manual processes, Guest-of-Honour NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Heng Chee How highlighted the need for accounting professionals to add value and become holistic trusted business advisors to stay relevant.

This comes at the back of a new survey by CPA Australia and Ernst & Young which revealed that eight in 10 finance leaders will not be equipped to meet the demands of their jobs in 10 years’ time.

Additionally, six in 10 found the current curriculum offered by educational and professional bodies inadequate to develop future-ready skills. A similar number said their organisations are not helping them to do so.

According to DSG Heng, the Labour Movement has been working hard to help professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) acquire deep regional knowledge.

“Through various networks such as U Associate, we have a large ecosystem of both international and local professional associations to help our PMEs remain connected and competitive in both global and local markets. The U Circle of Friends engages multi-national corporations and forms communities to assess gaps, develop local talents, and further strengthen the Singaporean leadership core,” he said.
