Some 30 female taxi drivers from the National Taxi Association (NTA) attended a female health talk and will receive a special medical package supported by Parkway Shenton Group.
The inaugural event was made possible with the NTA’s exclusive collaboration with Parkway Shenton Group for members in the NTA’s Women Chapter. As part of NTA’s efforts under its Women’s Chapter, this is also in line with NTA’s ongoing efforts in helping taxi drivers stay physically fit and healthy.
Held at Luxe Wellness Centre, Parkway Shenton’s private medical suite reserved only for women, attendees will receive a complimentary medical package worth S$255. The package comprises a basic health screening,
which includes a Pap smear test, Stool Occult Blood test and a flu vaccination.
Dr Lee Keen Whye, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, and former President of the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Singapore, will also be sharing with attendees on common female health issues such as osteoporosis and menopause.
Mr Heng Chee How, Deputy Secretary-General of NTUC who attended the event, praised the women taxi drivers for proactively looking after their health, including taking part in regular health screening. He said, “This initiative by NTA adds to efforts by the Labour Movement and Government to encourage workers to stay fit, healthy and work-ready for as long as possible.”
Mr Ang Hin Kee, Executive Adviser of NTA added, “We are happy to kick start the NTA Women’s Chapter with this valuable partnership with Parkway Shenton. As part of our efforts to strengthen health awareness amongst taxi drivers, we hope that the female cabbies can also receive health checkups that are tailored for the women. Through the Women’s Chapter, we hope to reach out to more female taxi drivers and help them form a network to bond through activities and to gain or exchange useful industry information.”
Dr Khor Chin Kee, Chief Executive Officer of Parkway Shenton said, "Women today tend to wear multiple hats at home and at work. Very often, they end up neglecting their own health. Through this collaboration, Parkway Shenton hopes to remind women of the importance of going for regular health screenings. Staying in the pink of health is actually the most important thing they can do in taking care of their business and loved ones."
Ms Susan Lim, 66 years old, one of the oldest serving NTA female leaders who received the complimentary medical checkup at LUXE said, “Many of us drive long hours every day and it can be quite difficult to slot in such medical checkups. Thus, this opportunity of a free health check-up and vaccination is much appreciated and needed. While regular health checkup is important for early detection of illnesses, we need to also maintain good eating habits and lifestyles to stay healthy. With the Women’s Chapter as a platform, we hope to help spread the message and raise health awareness amongst female cabbies.”
Going forward, Parkway Shenton will also be extending the same package to 900 other NTA female members at S$199. Eligible members can go for the screening at any of Shenton Medical Group’s 21 clinics islandwide.
