True to its mission to provide a better life for the community, NTUC FairPrice Foundation has donated vans to six Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs).

The recipients include Club Rainbow, TP HealthCare, Singapore Red Cross, Food from the Heart, Highpoint Community Services Association and Singapore Disability Sports Council.

Speaking at the event, NTUC FairPrice Foundation Director and NTUC FairPrice Board member Tan Hwee Bin said that providing these vehicles can help free up some of the VMO’s limited funds for other purposes to meet the increasing needs of their respective beneficiaries.

Club Rainbow will receive a customised van specially catered for children with mobility difficulties so they can easily move to hospitals and schools and also for food ration deliveries.

TP Healthcare will get a non-emergency ambulance that can be used to transport the elderly for medical treatments while Singapore Red Cross will use their retrofitted van for the needy.

Food from the Heart will use their new van to transport food to over 45 distribution centres located around Singapore.

Highpoint Community Services Association can now send their wheelchair bound elderly for medical appointments while Singapore Disability Sports Council can now replace one of their three vans to cater to disabled youth athletes for their daily training.

NTUC FairPrice Foundation has already donated over $46 million to the community with $7 million for this year alone.

This van initiative, amounting to $1 million, was announced on 1 October 2013 to commemorate the re-opening of the newly renovated FairPrice supermarket at Bukit Merah, which boasts new features such as a brighter storefront as well as an expanded product range to cater to the increasingly diverse customer groups.
