NTUC FairPrice together with South East Community Development Council launched this year’s instalment of the FairPrice Walk for Rice+ @ South East at Wisma Geylang Serai on 25 September 2019.
Some 7,000 underprivileged families and individuals will benefit from the campaign. This year’s FairPrice Foundation sponsorships will include white and brown rice, in addition to oatmeal.
For every 200 metres of walking at various community activities or every participating product sold between 19 September 2019 to 2 October 2019, FairPrice Foundation will donate one bowl of white and brown rice. The target this year is to raise 500,000 bowls towards the campaign.
Once the half-a-million bowl mark is reached, FairPrice Foundation will start donating a bowl of oatmeal for every 400 metres of walking. The foundation has pledged to donate 37,000 bowls of oatmeal towards the initiative this year.
According to FairPrice CEO Seah Kian Peng, the inclusion of oatmeal is in response to beneficiaries’ requests for more nutritious products. This is in line with FairPrice’s efforts to inculcate healthy eating among beneficiaries, he added.
“FairPrice Walk for Rice+ @ South East brings the community together to promote healthy living and at the same time supports needy families in the South-East district. This year, we are honoured to collaborate with South East CDC once again and extend our sponsorship to also include oatmeal in addition to brown and white rice … We urge the community to join us in this meaningful cause to foster a culture of giving while also staying active,” said Mr Seah.
Members of the public can contribute to FairPrice Walk for Rice+ @ South East by participating in various walking activities held at FairPrice outlets – Bedok North A, SingPost Centre and Nex shopping mall, from 28 to 29 September 2019, 12pm to 4pm.
The initiative is into its 11th year, having started in 2008. This year, the walkathon aims to clock a total of 65,000 kilometres by the community and corporate partners, an increase from 50,000 kilometres in previous years.
