iCash – Closed Loop Cash Management System
The iCash system automates the payment process, which increases accuracy in accepting and dispensing change. This, in turn, improves customer satisfaction.
The system also eliminates the need for cashiers to count cash before and after a shift, which saves time.
With the time saved on manual tasks, cashiers can be redeployed to other supermarket duties like stock management and merchandising.
• The iCash system was rolled out at Cheers and FairPrice outlets in April and September 2015 respectively.
• There are currently 21 FairPrice and 23 Cheers outlets installed with the iCash system.
• The system enhances security as cash is moved from the sales floor to the backroom in secured cassettes.
• FairPrice plans to roll out the system to another five FairPrice and seven Cheers outlets by the end of the year.
Self-Checkout Counters
FairPrice introduced self-checkout counters at its stores in February 2011 to counter a growing shortage of manpower. The initiative requires just one staff to man six self-checkout counters, compared to six cashiers for six conventional point-of-sale machines.
As a result of this implementation, its cashiering productivity has increased by 100 per cent based on an average of 280 self-checkout counters across 55 stores.
• Self-checkout counters allow customers with single basket purchases to scan their purchases, pack their goods and make payment seamlessly.
• The system started accepting cash payment, which was introduced in 20 outlets. It will be rolled out to four more stores by the end of the year.
• FairPrice is expecting to implement the system in 18 more stores by the end of 2017.
Electronic Shelf Labeling
First implemented in March 2011, the electronic shelf labels are currently available in 136 FairPrice stores.
These labels replace the laborious process of manually searching for and replacing paper shelf labels for items on a weekly basis, including those on promotions and with price changes. The system also integrates and enables all price labels for items in the store to be updated automatically.
• Each store has between 4,000 and 20,000 electronic labels.
• Shelf price labelling efficiency has improved by six times.
• The labels also improve pricing accuracy, which minimises customer complaints and enhances the overall shopping experience.
• All new stores will be installed with these electronic labels.
Contactless Payment
Left your wallet at home? Fret not, you can still do your grocery shopping just by using your mobile phone. With the contactless payment introduced by FairPrice in 2013, this payment method is now available in all FairPrice stores island-wide.
Compared to credit card payments, this method is fast, convenient and hassle-free, requiring less than half the time. All you need to do is connect your credit card to the mobile app!
