The NTUC FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme is back for the 16th year. This year, FairPrice will donate $1.2 million to help more than 20,000 needy families alleviate their daily cost of living. These families will come from all 89 grassroots organisations in Singapore.

FairPrice made this announcement at the celebration of its 45th Founders’ Day on 6 August 2018 at Community Plaza @ Oasis Terraces.

The scheme was launched in 2002 and sees grocery vouchers distributed to needy families mainly through the advisors of the grassroots organisations.

To date, some $16.8 million worth of FairPrice vouchers have been distributed.

Retailer with a Heart

“Since FairPrice was founded 45 years ago, we have served the community through our social mission to moderate the cost of living and to ensure that daily essentials stay affordable. As we commemorate our Founders’ Day, we remain committed to serving the needs of the community, especially that of the low-income families and continue to serve as a retailer with a heart,” said NTUC FairPrice Chairman Bobby Chin.

According to Mr Chin, FairPrice will also pledge another $1.2 million of food vouchers next year.

People’s Association CEO Desmond Tan said the association is glad to partner FairPrice for the scheme.

“Being close to the community, our grassroots volunteers are aware of residents who need financial assistance, and through the partnership with FairPrice, we are able to offer additional assistance in the form of vouchers to these residents,” he said.

The Founders’ Day event was also graced by NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng. Mr Ng, Mr Chin and Mr Tan prepared breakfast for 45 beneficiaries of the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme.
