“NTUC FairPrice is one of the first supermarkets to launch an online platform in Singapore more than a decade ago and today we take another leap forward to enhance our online customer experience with FairPrice On. In line with Singapore’s Retail Industry Transformation Map, we continue to innovate and harness technology to boost productivity and customer service while adapting to constant shifts in the e-commerce industry,” said NTUC FairPrice CEO Seah Kian Peng.
Following the official launch of its refreshed online platform, FairPrice On, at the FairPrice Hub in Joo Koon on 28 March 2018, consumers can now enjoy the same great deals and affordable prices by shopping on its revamped mobile application and online platforms.
Leading The Way
Highlighting FairPrice’s efforts, Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who officiated the launch, underscored how FairPrice is an example of how a traditional business can use technology to transform themselves to be more productive and offer workers better quality jobs.
“FairPrice is an example of a large employer, with some 10,000 staff in total, and they are showing how employers can be responsible for developing each individual to the maximum of their capabilities and helping them to adapt to the way technology is transforming the business and improve the quality of their jobs and the quality of every job.
“FairPrice’s journey is also reflective of Singapore’s in the next phase of its development – which is about embracing technological change so as to maximise its benefits for everyone, but also keeping a watchful eye on how it impacts jobs and helping every individual adapt to change and do well,” he said.
Enhanced Customer Service
Where it matters, the new digital shopping platforms promise a more user-friendly experience for consumers, with intuitive browsing and easier searching across FairPrice On’s range of 13,000 products. Payment and delivery processes have also been streamlined, with deliveries now available 365 days a year for greater convenience.
Leveraging Technology
With more than 400,000 registered customers making over 3,000 orders a day, fulfilling orders is no easy task.
This is where FairPrice On has leveraged technology, with a new ‘AutoStore’ storage and retrieval system that makes use of robots to optimise manpower and boost productivity by over four times.
A high-density storage system, AutoStore makes use of robots to retrieve products that are stored in bins of customisable sizes. These are then delivered to FairPrice On staff who will prepare and pack them for delivery. There are over 20,000 customisable bins and 55 robots working simultaneously in the fulfilment centre.
