Those working in the Food and Beverage (F&B) industry can look forward to quicker, bite-sized mobile learning modules through the U Leap (Learning Enabled Through Active Participation) app by NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute).

U Leap for F&B was officially launched by NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng (above) on 17 July 2018 during the Speciality Fine Food Asia 2018 trade show held at Suntec City.

Some of the courses include the Association of Bartenders & Sommeliers Singapore’s (ABSS) “Cocktail ABC”, Nanyang Polytechnic’s (NYP) “Forecasting in F&B”, ASEAN Coffee Federation’s “Preparing a Café Latte” and Republic Polytechnic’s “Organic Farming”.

Users will also find practical tips, tools for business owners and insights into the future of F&B technology.

Launched in November last year, the U Leap app is a mobile platform that uses crowdsourcing and lets users browse through the app’s feeds and learn something new.

The modules on F&B add on to other topics such as cybersecurity, Internet of Things and workplace health and safety.

U Leap also features multimedia content on various topics contributed by Knowledge Partners – industry partners, institutes of higher learning, professional associations, among others – which allows users to stay updated on current trends, participate in discussions and exchange ideas.

More for the F&B Industry

While the F&B industry tackles manpower issues by being innovative and using technology to improve productivity, Mr Ng said that Singapore must ensure that the workforce is well-equipped to support this industry transformation.

“Coupled with a tight labour market in Singapore, raising our workers’ capabilities and leveraging technology must go hand in hand to drive growth and higher productivity,” he added.
