People looking to join the marine and offshore engineering industry as drafting specialists or quality professionals can look forward to two new career development plans (CDPs) that will help them gradually build up their skills and experience in these roles.

More than 100 pilot vacancies for the two roles will be made available by Dyna-Mac Engineering, Keppel Offshore & Marine, PaxOcean and Sembcorp Marine.

A recruitment drive called SGUnited-e2i Marine Jobs & Skills Discovery for the vacancies will be held at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability on 7 October 2021.

The CDPs, which were jointly developed by NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), the Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) and members of the NTUC’s Electronics, Marine & Engineering (EME) Cluster, aim to attract local talents into the industry via structured progression pathways, building up their skills and experiences from entry to senior-level, thus ensuring long-term career prospects within the industry.

“NTUC’s e2i is always ready to help create better jobs for better lives for our fellow Singaporeans,” said e2i CEO Gilbert Tan.

“We are happy to be working with our partners on the launch of the two Career Development Plans, which will benefit Singaporeans interested in entering the marine & offshore engineering industry. This is a win-win situation as it not only helps the industry meet its manpower needs but provides Singaporeans with good job prospects based on varying levels of skills and experience.”

Creating a Training and Placement Ecosystem

The CDPs were revealed when stakeholders signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 4 October 2021 at the launch of Marine Week 2021.

The MOU will affirm the creation of a dedicated training and placement ecosystem for the marine and offshore engineering industry. It also signifies the parties’ commitment to recruit, retain and redeploy local talent within the industry.

NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, who witnessed the signing, said that he was happy to see the culmination of efforts that went towards the launch of the two CDPs.

He said: “The two professions were chosen for this launch are important as they are evergreen jobs that are critical to almost every aspect of the marine and offshore industry. And more importantly, the skills of the career development plans that can be nurtured into the workers, are all transferable.”

Parties interested in the two positions can register for an on-site interview on 7 October 2021 here.
