Through NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), the Labour Movement has been doing its part to ensure workers are equipped with the necessary skills to remain employable.
The Role of e2i
From jobseekers to those looking to make a mid-career switch, e2i helps with employment through an extensive network of partners, serving as a bridge to connect jobseekers with employers looking to hire.
e2i also looks to continuously boost workers’ employability by ensuring they are well-equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude. This happens through upgrading courses and booster programmes offered by the.
In 2015 alone, e2i helped more than 81,000 workers better their skills and matching them to jobs. Their efforts included the Place-and-Train programme, an initiative that e2i started in 2008 to allow workers to be hired while undergoing training with a company.
e2i CEO Gilbert Tan said: “e2i is akin to a matchmaker for bridging employment and employability gaps. We match jobseekers to employers, employers to manpower solutions and ideas to funding. These result in making jobs more attractive and helping working people have better jobs and better lives.”
Paving the Way
Apart from working adults, e2i has started extending its reach to students in tertiary institutes such as Republic Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and the National University of Singapore.
They have signed Memoranda of Understanding with these three schools to allow students to be exposed to various industries through workshops, learning journeys, networking opportunities and career fairs with prospective employers.
The aim is to let the students have a better understanding of the different industries so that they can make informed choices for their career path.
