The annual Healthcare Services Employees’ Union (HSEU) Bursary Awards recognise the academic efforts and achievements of their members’ children.
Taking place at ITE College Central on 2 February this year, the HSEU Bursary Awards 2018/2019 saw some $90,000 disbursed to 455 members children spanning primary to tertiary levels schools. This year also saw the introduction of SHINE awards for members’ children who attend special education schools.
Part of the bursary amount was sponsored by SingHealth, the National Healthcare Group, National University Health System, NTUC Health and the Agency for Integrated Care, while the rest was covered by the NTUC U Care Education Co-Funding Scheme and HSEU.
The event was attended by 800 participants, with NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Koh Poh Koon as guest-of-honour.
Digital Showcase
This year’s event featured a festival themed Digital Metamorphosis with interactive booths operated by partners such as ITE College Central, HADO Singapore and Ministry of Health Holdings.
HSEU members and their families got to listen in to tech workshops, experience innovations such as augmented reality, and pick up basic health tips. They got to try their hand at coding with Microbit, a tiny programmable computer.
In a break from tradition, bursary awardees also received the monetary awards via bank transfer instead of the usual bank cheques.
HSEU 30
With 2019 being HSEU’s 30th anniversary, the union also kicked off the year-long celebrations centred around the union’s 30-year milestone, caring for workers, and supporting them with career progression and learning opportunities.
