The first batch of 76 from the Professional Development Programme (PDP) for Educarers graduated on 28 July 2017.
Aimed at helping early childhood professionals working with infants aged two months to four years develop more rewarding careers, the three-year programme is expected to benefit some 200 individuals over the next four years. In recognition of their commitment, participants can receive milestone cash awards of up to $12,000.
My First Skool is among the top three pre-school centres that sent in the most number of employees.
“I was a little hesitant to go into infant care initially as I have been handling toddlers for the past 10 years. It was my principal who encouraged me last October to upgrade myself and get new certifications,” said Joycelyn Wee, 36, who have progressed from an English teacher to a senior infant educarer at My First School.
Besides training, educarers on PDP receive a learning package from Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA). Though a guidebook and compilation of video clips within, they pick up tips on how to apply the 3Rs (Respectful, Responsive and Reciprocal) in their interactions with children.
The next intake will open in the first half of 2018. For more information, visit ECDA's page here.
