The lifestyle resort destination Downtown East in Pasir Ris has just turned 30, and comes all dressed and in a new refreshed outfit to cater to today’s crowd. It celebrated the birthday in spectacular fashion on 10 November 2018 and also marked the completion of the $200 million Refreshing Downtown East project that commenced in 2013.
The birthday bash – dubbed Downtown East 30 – served up a music festival-styled carnival that was attended by over 10,000 visitors who indulged in a Saturday of music, food and games. Highlights included an indoor fireworks display and performances from some of the most popular local musicians and bands such as The Sam Willows (pictured above), Jack and Rai, and THELIONCITYBOY.
Serving Members Better
“Over the last 30 years, Downtown East has evolved from a humble chalet to a lifestyle destination for our [union] members. Many of our leaders and staff, both past and present, have worked very hard to bring fun into our lives. Even as our need for fun changes over time, one thing remains constant – NTUC Club’s commitment to stay relevant to our members’ needs,” said NTUC Secretary-General and NTUC Club Management Council Chairman Ng Chee Meng.
With the upgrading project now complete, guests will be able to indulge in an integrated resort experience. Since the early days of chalets and swimming pools, Downtown East now features a nature-inspired D’Resort, an expanded Wild Wild Wet water park and enhanced retail, dining and entertainment options at Market Square.
