Besides championing for workers, the Labour Movement has always strived to be an exemplary employer in its Human Resources (HR) practices and one of NTUC’s Social Enterprise’s efforts were recently recognised.
On 1 March 2013, NTUC First Campus Co-operative Limited Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Geraldine Lee received the prestigious Frazer Jones Award for Outstanding Contribution to HR at the 10th annual HRM Awards.
The award celebrates a leading HR figure who has contributed a lot to the HR industry throughout his or her career and Ms Lee is “truly humbled to be accorded this prestigious award.”
She also won the Robert Walters Award for Best HR Leader at HRM awards, in 2011 and 2010, which recognises the HR leader’s ability create an environment that focuses all employees on the organisation’s priorities and directives. “In 2010 and 2011, NTUC First Campus went through major organisational transformation as we expanded rapidly. I am truly appreciative of our CEO’s commitment to our human capital; his openness and the support of our management team in putting in place foundational HR systems and implementing strong rewards and recognition programs, staff engagement as well as career development programs that have benefited our colleagues,” Ms Lee explained.
NTUC First Campus also came up with creative schemes to attract jobseekers interested to pursue the early childhood profession. “We use diverse platforms and channels and we share passionately why we are here; to bring in and grow educators who will nurture our next generation with a special focus on giving every child the opportunity to start on an equal footing with their peers and fulfil their potential,” she shared.
Ms Lee has been with the Co-operative for four years and she chose to be a part of an NTUC Social Enterprise because she aligns herself with NTUC’s mission and she feels that more can be done through a Social Enterprise to benefit the lives of ordinary Singaporeans. She said: “I want to be able to share, apply and translate my knowledge and experience to a local enterprise that can use these to build and grow its precious human capital to achieve its mission.”
She added: “This award is a recognition. We have much to do in NTUC First Campus for the more than 10,000 children and families currently and even more as we expand. My hope is that we will continue to be able to attract, retain and enable our educators and administrators to grow and INSPIRE one another, the children and the parents.”
