Developing the Singaporean core

During debate on the Population White Paper in February, Labour Members of Parliament (MPs) brought up several issues, perspectives and suggestions.

Labour MP Alex Yam emphasised the importance of a solid Singapore core. He believes we must build a strong Singapore Core, which is not based only numbers, but on the strength of our identity.

He urged that the Government, even as it prepares us for growth and development, to value the physical and cultural heritage of our landscape.

He is also encouraged by the introduction of the "Enhanced Maternity Protection for Pregnant Employees" as it sends out a strong deterrent message to errant employers against denying their workers of maternity benefits

He finds the Marriage and Parenthood Package is a generous package but fears that we may overly monetise our children and that they are seen through the lens of digits.
