1 NTUC Foodfare Co-operative Ltd will not be raising the prices of coffee drinks in all its seven outlets. Despite increases in operational and raw material costs, the prices of coffee drinks at NTUC Foodfare’s coffee shop outlets will remain at $0.60 for black coffee and $0.70 for coffee with milk. As for Foodfare’s foodcourt outlets, it will be $0.70 for black coffee and $0.80 for coffee with milk.
2 NTUC Foodfare’s Human Resource Manager, Ms Alice Yeoh said “NTUC Foodfare is staying true to its social mission of stabilizing the prices of food and beverages, hence the prices of coffee drinks in our outlets will remain unchanged.” NTUC Foodfare’s outlets consist of two foodcourts and five coffee shops.
3 Since 1995, NTUC Foodfare has been helping Singaporeans stretch their dollar by moderating price increases through benchmark prices. As a cooperative under the labour movement, NTUC Foodfare has been keeping prices of cooked food and basic essential beverages low and affordable and it has also absorbed price hikes where possible.
4 For example during the 1998 economic crisis, which brought on a spate of retrenchments and pay cuts, NTUC Foodfare had cut its prices to help workers cope better. Drinks, for example, were sold at 5 cents less. NTUC Foodfare had also absorbed the GST increase for six months when the new tax rate came into effect on 1 January 2003.
5 Starting last year, NTUC Foodfare has been offering the $1.40 Super Value Breakfast Set for union members. The set includes a cup of coffee or tea, two slices of toast bread with kaya and two half-boiled eggs. This set is priced 22 -40% cheaper than what other food places are offering.
