In his lifetime, the Labour Movement stalwart was known for his love of learning. Today, his legacy lives on with the opening of the new Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability. The one-stop training hub at Jurong East aims to ‘Make Every Worker a Better Worker’.
Workers can upgrade themselves with broad-based skills that apply across all industries, such as leadership and language skills. Industry-specific skills to progress in the respective professions will also be offered to equip workers to be future-ready.
Another key objective of the new campus is to serve as a focal point for the Labour Movement to raise productivity and e-design jobs. More than 1,000 productivity projects have been supported under the Inclusive Growth Programme (IGP) since it was launched in August 2010, benefitting some 70,000 workers.
NTUC’s e2i will also ‘Match The Better Worker to the Better Job’. Such matching opportunities are created at regular job fairs where employers conduct on-site interviews. These include career fairs for PMEs (Professionals, Managers and Executives), WorkPro job fairs for mature workers and back-to-work women, and community job fairs that bring jobs to heartlands.
