The Multi-Ministry Taskforce (MTF) will enhance the TraceTogether (TT) Programme and SafeEntry to increase the efficiency of tracing COVID-19 cases.
The enhancements aim to reduce the risk of further transmissions and formation of clusters.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will work with tripartite partners on the next phase of Safe Management Measures (SMMs) for workplaces.
These were revealed at an MTF press conference on 9 September 2020.
“The situation in Singapore is stable for the time being. But let us continue to keep up our vigilance and not let the virus have a chance to spread,” said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, who co-chairs the taskforce.
To protect more Singapore residents using the TT Programme, the Government will commence a nation-wide distribution of the TT Tokens from 14 September 2020.
Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation Initiative Vivian Balakrishnan stated that the initiative would allow a more straightforward and hassle-free tracing option, as compared to the smartphone app.
The free TT Token will be available for all residents in Singapore. The Government aims to complete the distribution by November 2020.
Dr Vivian also said that the Government will not make the initiative mandatory.
However, he encouraged Singaporeans to come on board the programme to make tracing efforts more efficient and effective.
Residents can go to the TokenGoWhere website for more details on the collection sites.
MOM is also currently looking for ways to enable more employees to return to the workplace safely as the country gradually resumes more economic activities.
The ministry is encouraging employers to implement flexible workplace timings so that groups of workers can travel during the off-peak hours.
“By doing so, we can reduce the risk of large crowds gathering and public transport in public spaces and also in office buildings. MOM and its tripartite partners are actively looking at this issue,” said Dr Vivian.
