Beyond helping working people to upskill and gain new knowledge to keep themselves employable in an evolving economic landscape, the Labour Movement has also set its sights on preparing youths, who will in time be Singapore’s future workforce.

“Youths at the last lap of school, and who will be stepping into the workforce, are an important pool that the Labour Movement hopes to help. Many of them may be at crossroads, seeking answers for their career dilemmas.

“We are looking to step up our efforts to support and develop them into a future-ready workforce. Therefore, it will be apt that we, as a Labour Movement with an extensive network, offer them a wide variety of support,” said NTUC Director, Youth Development Unit, Desmond Choo.

Reaching Out Early

Amidst an evolving and challenging job landscape, the Labour Movement has been reaching out to students in institutes of higher learning (IHLs) to offer them career guidance and support, essential work experience as well as opportunities to secure jobs upon graduation.

“As part of the Labour Movement’s efforts to take care of all working people, e2i is building up the IHL network by providing a continuum of employment and employability services. By tapping on our career guidance, training, jobs matching expertise and extensive network, the workers of tomorrow can benefit from e2i services at each stage of their career planning from pre-graduation to post-retirement.

“It is important for every individual to be more informed of their career pathways and to  have regular employability ‘health checks’ to thrive in the fast-changing job market,” said NTUC's e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) CEO Gilbert Tan.
