Building Construction And Timber Industries Employees’ Union (BATU) President Nasordin Mohammed Hashim has stepped down. This was announced on 15 August 2018 during BATU’s Ordinary Convention of Delegates.

He is replaced by former General Secretary Abdul Rahman Abdul Basir, while former Assistant General Treasurer Noor Irdawaty Jammarudin is now General Secretary.

Nasordin has been serving BATU since he was elected as the first branch chairman of the ESMACO branch in 1993. He was BATU GS from 2001 and became President in 2008.

In his speech, Nasordin said that in the last two years, BATU has expanded its branches to 180. Membership now numbers 43,000 from 23,000 in 2006.

Nasordin will remain in BATU’s executive committee as a guide and mentor to the new team.

Speaking as the new BATU president, Rahman said that he has three areas of focus moving ahead: leadership succession, membership growth and strengthening BATU’s governance.
