With 162 recipients and about $38,000 distributed in the Education Services Union (ESU) – U Care Bursary and Scholarship Awards in December 2012, the union marked two increases – a ten per cent increase in the number of recipients as well as a ten per cent increase in the amount of scholarships and bursaries given out.
For first-time recipient Muhd Haziq Ash-shiddiq, the award was more than an indicator of his academic achievements – it also served as motivation for him.
“I will work harder for my exams next year and I want to try and get the award again,” said the 10-year-old from Pasir Ris Primary School.
To encourage ESU members to continuously improve their academic abilities and skills, the union also continued to give out the ESU Learning Award to its members who completed their Diploma and Degree programmes from various institutions and learning centres.
