Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen manpower development efforts in the aviation industry.

Guest-of-Honour Minister for Transport, Lui Tuck Yew, witnessed the signing at the annual Aviation Community Reception organised by the CAAS on 18 July 2014.

The MOU will provide the sector “with a one-stop shop in manpower development solutions such as attracting, developing and retaining talent, as well as programmes for workforce training and development”, he said.

NTUC Assistant Secretary-General (ASG), Cham Hui Fong, who was one of the signatories, added, “The Labour Movement being a partner of the cluster that brings the employers, economic and government agencies, and unions together will work closely with all players to identify skills training and productivity improvements. We will also work with companies and unions to incorporate progressive wage models for all workers.”

One of the unions that will see its members benefit from the MOU is the SIA Engineering Company Engineers and Executive Union (SEEU).

“Current (and future) pools of workers in the industry will be able to seize and make use of better training, career upgrading, and placement opportunities to keep our skills current and relevant,” said SEEU General Secretary, Ong Hwee Liang.
