Ever since the unfortunate traffic accident involving the demise of taxi driver Mr Cheng Teck Hock, the National Taxi Association (NTA) has been working closely with taxi company, Comfort Transportation Pte Ltd to provide needed assistance to the family of the victim. Much has been done to garner donations from fellow drivers, members of the public as well as organisations. Mr Cheng was a sole breadwinner of his family and he left behind his wife with three school-going children.
To date, the call for support has been well-responded. Many fellow taxi drivers and other generous donors have come forward to provide help to the victim’s family. Just to name a few, members of the public, Mr Toh Soon Huat and Mr Jackson Teo have each donated $5,000. A group of merchants and employees from Sim Lim Square have also donated $10,000 collectively. These donations will go out to help Mr Cheng’s family with their living expenses in the near future.
At the same time, NTA will continue to work closely with various parties such as the grassroots organisations, Community Development Councils and local Members of Parliaments (MPs) to ensure that Mr Cheng’s three children can continue with their education. Going forward, regular reviews would also be done with the family to make sure that necessary and timely support can be provided.
