For 20 years, key leaders from the Labour Movement have visited workers in the essential services sectors during the first day of the Lunar New Year to thank them for their sacrifice, hard work and contributions to Singapore.

It was no different this year as the Labour Movement visited workers at SATS Inflight Catering Center, taxi drivers at Changi Airport Terminal 3 and port workers at PSA.

Here is a compilation of photographs that capture workers taking a bit of time out to soak in the festive spirit.

Appreciating Workers at SATS

Hygiene at the workplace: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, accompanied by NTUC President Mary Liew, don dustcoats and hairnets to greet workers at SATS Inflight Catering Centre.

Workers at SATS prepare more than 90,000 in-flight meals daily. Mr Lee and Mrs Lee, along with SATS management and Labour Movement leaders, visit the mock-flight cabin found at the centre.

Mr Lee gives out red packets and mandarin oranges as well as gifts prepared by Mrs Lee to some 150 kitchen workers.

Members of the NTUC Central Committee tour the facilities at SATS.

The visit ends with a traditional lohei session with workers, union leaders and management partners.

Appreciating Taxi Drivers at Changi Airport

Transport services go on as usual all across Singapore, even on public holidays such as Lunar New Year. To thank them for their hard work, NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin and some 50 leaders from the National Taxi Association visit taxi drivers around 6am at Changi Airport Terminal 3.

In all, 1,000 taxi drivers at various terminals received gift bags this year.

Appreciating Workers at PSA

Over at the ports in PSA, NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Koh Poh Koon, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat, Senior Minister of State for Transport Lam Pin Min and union leaders from the Singapore Port Workers Union and Port Officers Union bring festive cheer to 1,000 workers at the break of dawn.

These workers continue to be on duty on the first day of Lunar New Year as Singapore’s ports function 24/7, 365 days a year.

One highlight of the port visit: A lion dance to bring in wealth and prosperity in 2019.
