Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport (SMS) Josephine Teo and leaders from the National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU) headed down to three MRT Interchanges on 10 July 2015 to show appreciation to some 30 SMRT Operation and Maintenance workers that helped commuters with directions, queries and crowd control during the train disruptions on 7 July 2015.
The three stations were Raffles Place, Dhoby Ghaut and City Hall, with SMS Teo visiting the latter. The visit was organised by NTWU, and included a round of light refreshments for the workers.
“It was good to hear the ground staff at our MRT stations take the tough situations in their stride. In the recent breakdown, some of them were called back very soon after getting off their shifts. Still, they gave their best and I'm sure was appreciated by commuters,” said SMS Teo.
Similarly, NTUC Secretary-General (SG) Chan Chun Sing along with key NTWU leaders visited and engaged with some 20 SMRT Station and Train Operation workers at Ang Mo Kio Station on 11 July 2015.
NTWU President Rosmani Juraini, who was present at both engagements, said: “We just got together to appreciate some of these workers on duty right now for their hard work and for their understanding during such hard times.”
Particularly touched was Mr Rosdirahman, Assistant Station Manager at Dhoby Ghaut Station, “We are very grateful that they showed us appreciation, as we really worked hard that day,” he said.
