On 23 January 2015, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Central Committee wrote to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to request for Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence to join NTUC to help strengthen labour leadership at NTUC and the link between the Labour Movement and the Government.

PM Lee supported NTUC’s choice and agreed for Mr Chan to serve NTUC immediately on a part-time basis and full-time from 1 April onwards.

Today, the Central Committee passed a resolution to co-opt Mr Chan into the Central Committee and appoint him as Deputy Secretary-General under NTUC’s Constitution with effect from 27 January 2015.

The Central Committee warmly welcomed Mr Chan onboard the tripartite journey towards better jobs for all.
