The total amount – a whopping $11,014,529 in donations raised for the NTUC-U Care Fund for this year! The figure was revealed at the annual U Care Charity Dinner held at the Mandarin Orchard Hotel Ballroom on 12 November 2014.
This surpasses the amount of $11 million which the Labour Movement had aimed to raise to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the U Care Fund. This means that since its inception in 2009, $77,215,434 has been raised for the U Care Fund, which goes towards helping low-income union member and their families as well as to needy children and the elderly through various assistance programmes and donations to the Bright Horizons Fund and the NTUC Eldercare Trust.
For A Good Cause
NTUC President Diana Chia and NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say jointly hosted the dinner that was graced by around 900 guests comprising union leaders, management partners, corporate donors and some U Care beneficiaries and their family members.
NTUC’s 61 affiliated unions and association donated a total amount of $404,908.
“The total contributions from all our 61 unions and association saw an increase of 35% from last year, clearly a sign of their commitment to helping our low-income members and their families,” said NTUC Assistant Secretary-General and NTUC Care and Share Department Director Zainal Sapari.
