It is a pleasure to be here to launch the first run of the Family Recreation & Fun Carnival 2012.
Fully sponsored and organised by NTUC Club, the annual Family Recreation & Fun Carnivals have been NTUC Club’s way of demonstrating their support towards the Labour Movement’s U Care Fund. Let us thank NTUC Club for doing this year after year!
This year, NTUC Club will be organising six runs of the Family Recreation & Fun Carnival with a total sponsorship value of $1.5 million dollars.
With the six runs of the Carnivals, up to 60,000 of our eligible members and their families will get to enjoy a fun-filled day at Downtown East, at no cost to them at all.
We are very grateful to NTUC Club for their unwavering support for the past few years. Once again, please join me in thanking NTUC Club for their generous contribution!
Objective of Family Recreation & Fun Carnival
Planned with our members in mind, the Carnival aims to promote family bonding through fun activities, as families who play and bond together, stay together as a stronger family unit that will take them through good and bad times.
It is through such engagement activities that stronger and resilient family bonds are fostered. We hope that by taking time off work to enjoy and play, our members and families will achieve better work-life harmony.
Beneficiary of Family Recreation & Fun Carnival
Take Mdm Joewen Lim as an example. She is here today with her family of six. Mdm Lim works as an account assistant and she told us that she is delighted to have this opportunity to bring her family to the Carnival today. Today is also a very special day as her twin daughters are celebrating their 13th birthday and they have specially chosen this day to have a great time together. Let me wish both Yi Peng and Yi Pin a very happy 13th birthday!
This is also the second time that Mdm Lim is participating in this programme as her four daughters love the exciting game stalls and the Wild Wild Wet. As a working mother, Mdm Lim thinks that this is a great way to spend quality time with her family, all thanks to NTUC Club!
2012 Fundraising Target for U Care Fund
The Family Recreation and Fun Carnival is one of the many initiatives that the Labour Movement U Care Fund has to help our members. Through the Fund, we will continue to reach out to support our members as we believe that no one should be left behind because of their financial circumstances.
This year, with the uncertainty in the economic landscape and concerns of rising cost of living, the U Care Fund will again set aside funds to help defray the cost of living for our low-income members and their families. I am pleased to announce that the NTUC U Care Fund will target to raise $10.5 million dollars in 2012 so that we can continue to provide assistance to our members who may need just a little extra help.
We hope that more donors will come forward to support us in this meaningful cause, as no amount is too small and no effort is too little. Together, we can all make a difference!
