On behalf of NTA Executive Committee, we would like to thank all our partners and supporters, in particular our Transport Minister, for taking time off their busy schedule to join us in this afternoon’s NTA Taxi Book Launch.
One and a half years ago, Mr Seng Han Thong, NTA Advisor mooted the idea to publish, for the first time, a Taxi Book dedicated fully to Taxi Drivers and Passengers on their real live stories and experiences. As you all know, taxi services touches the lives of almost all Singaporeans and residents, with more than 930,000 daily ridership. It is therefore not surprising that taxi services always receive quick media attention and projected into the limelight on its issues be it positive or negative stories.
As the President of NTA and on behalf of our members and drivers, I am happy to say that majority of our members and drivers are good and conscientious drivers strive their best every day to provide the best possible services and experiences to their passengers. Through this book, we wanted to provide an insight into the lives of taxi drivers and their positive experiences dealing with passengers and how they go beyond their normal call of duty to provide that extra services for their passengers. Besides looking from the drivers’ perspectives, we have also interviewed regular passengers on their good and bad experiences with taxi services. Many of these passengers have shared their views honestly and their own expectation of what good taxi service is all about.
Finally, 1st June is also an important date for the taxi Industry as all our drivers can now officially drive till the age of 75. I must take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Transport and LTA in particular our Guest-of-Honour, Minister Lui Tuck Yew for your kind understanding and support to all our Taxi Drivers. Not forgetting too, is to thank our President, Dr Tony Tan and our Prime Minister for advocating on behalf of our drivers for this age extension.
