A memorandum of understanding between Association of Certified Security Agencies (ACSA), Security Association Singapore (SAS) and the Union of Security Employees (USE) on 13 July 2017 has resulted in the new Security Industry Council (SIC).
“We are proud that we can today stand together with one voice, pushing ahead to raise standards in our industry, with the aim of ultimately to have better jobs, better pay for our security officers and a safe Singapore for all Singaporeans,” said USE Executive Secretary Steve Tan.
Collaboration Efforts
The council will work to improve productivity through technology, raise the image of the industry and identify skills pathways and career opportunities for security officers.
SAS President Raj Joshua Thomas said: “The SIC is a significant initiative that will coordinate the efforts of the key stakeholders in the industry to meet these challenges, including facilitating the adoption of technology-powered solutions, strengthening our security agencies, shepherding meaningful consolidation of the industry, and building high-value jobs that pay well and that contribute in a real way to the security of Singapore and Singaporeans.”
SIC will also reach out to service buyers in the public, commercial, industrial and residential segments to educate and recommend professional security services and charges.
Resolving Issues
The council plans to develop a defined and agreed framework to discuss and resolve issues on industry development. Should issues such as career progression, grievances, work safety and health arise from time to time, USE, ACSA and SAS will also use the council as a discussion platform.
ACSA President Robert Weiner said the council will provide an "amicable and amenable environment" to engage stakeholders in the industry and face transformation in the industry to make available appropriate security services to Singaporeans.
Currently, ACSA represents over 117 security agencies, while SAS represents over 140 security agencies in the Industry. Currently, 105 security agencies are unionised under USE.
